Estevan Contreras Ms. Lehmann English 2-1B 5 December 2019 Review of “With Friends Like These” Who are you? This may seem a weird question to ask someone, but it demands a more complex answer than just stating your name. The question of who someone is and how he or she perceives the world is the main focus of the article “With Friends Like These”? Dorothy Rowe’s article “With Friends Like These” is definitely worth the read if you’re interested in the medical field, especially psychology. Other than that, I would not recommend this. Rowe has a degree in psychology, which makes her a qualified and reliable source of information. The author wrote this article to inform us about our friendships and how they impact who we are and how we see the world. Rowe’s tone in this article is informal and easy to read. She uses no outside sources for the writing, relying on her knowledge and her experiences. This article is perfect to gain some basic knowledge and learn some interesting things about psychology. Rowe’s writing is fairly good, but that is not the only factor to consider. Rowe’s use of section titles is useful for telling what the main idea of each section is, but it also impedes the rate at which one can read the article. Her main claim is clearly introduced in the introduction. Rowe hooks readers by finding common ground with her audience. She organizes the article well by giving section titles, but as stated before, these impede the flow of the article. Rowe introduced her main claim early on and referred back to it well in her conclusion. The article has a clear beginning and end, which makes it an easy read. In the article “ With Friends Like These,” Rowe argues that our friendships are necessary for us to be happy, but friendships can be difficult because of our perceptions of ourselves, the world, and one another. Rowe uses her own expertise and real life stories to support her claims. She lacks outside sources. This is fine for basic knowledge since the article was peer reviewed, but it is not strong enough for research purposes. In conclusion, Dorothy Rowe uses her background in psychology to write this article for common people looking for basic knowledge. Her use of section titles and organization made it an interesting, but stumbling read. The overall content was good, with a clear beginning and end. The article overall was rather well written, but I still do not recommend this article to anyone not interested in the field of psychology.

Article Review Reflection
Explain the process you went through to write this paper. Please be specific.
I read the article and took notes on it. I formed an opinion and wrote a review about it. I went into how well the writer went into certain things and how the reading was only worth it if you had an interest in psychology.
2. What qualifies this paper as an informative essay? What are the requirements for a review and how did you meet them? You have to state the purpose, critique the content, and last but not least you have to give your recommendation on whether or not to read it. I did all of these and in my opinion I gave a solid review and was fair in my criticism.
3. What one piece of advice would you give someone writing a review for the first time? Why? Be brutally honest and make sure to give your opinion honestly. Also you need to write it out in a way that flows from one topic to another so that you can get your point across
