Estevan Contreras Ms. Lehmann English 1-1A 22 March 2019 Play response We recently watched a play called As You Like It, written by William Shakespeare and preformed by the company Shakespearience. In my opinion, the play wasn’t very great, and I didn’t like it. I believe there are multiple reasons for it, but I think my main reason is that I could’ve been doing more productive things for other classes. Like I stated before in this paragraph, I believe there are multiple reasons as to why I didn’t like the play, and in this assignment, I will to explain them to you, the reader. I believe one reason I didn’t like the play was the set. In my opinion, I think the stage was too barren and the main set piece was a metal thing with stairs, for goodness sakes. They had six boxes that had three sides covered in green so that it would look like bushes, and the forth side had speakers on it and I don’t know that makes no sense unless they are at a concert, which they weren’t at. My second reason is that the costumes were way below the level I expected from the company. The costumes choices were at the level of a middle school play with a low budget, sorry to sound rude but that is my honest opinion. I believe for a travelling theatre group the costumes would be better that what they were. Also the costumes to me didn’t fulfill the whole 80’s wardrobe they were going for. My third and final reason for not liking the play was the music and sfx. The sfx was badly done and the music chosen for the play could’ve been more expansive. In brutal honesty I would’ve preferred listening to grunge metal for 24 hours straight then to listen to the “love” song one more time. In conclusion the play was not a good experience for me. The music and sfx, costume design, and last but not least was the set/props. All three of those things were not as impressive as I expected. Also like I said I could’ve been doing more productive things like weight lifting or doing some math homework.
